Key Duties and Responsibilities

Secondary Curriculum

  • Ensure the implementation of the state-approved curriculum 6-12.
  • Monitor instructional effectiveness (specific focus area 6-12).
  • Disaggregate data (formative, summative, universal screeners, standardized testing).
  • Lead the Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) (with the Director of Primary Curriculum).
  • Monitor the Upson-Lee Alternative School Program.
  • Coordinate curriculum development, revision, and evaluation.
  • Supervise the selection of textbooks and instructional materials.
  • Work with the Director of Primary Curriculum, principals, and teacher committees to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of instructional programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Primary Curriculum and principals to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Instructional Coaches for Curriculum.
  • Establish ongoing evaluation programs for instruction and curriculum.
  • Coordinate system professional learning programs and professional development for all staff.
  • Assess, recommend, and provide training on data applications and district programs.
  • Provide leadership for identifying research priorities and implementing improvements to school effectiveness.
  • Provide staff leadership to ensure understanding of and promotion of the educational objectives and goals of the system.
  • Develop strategies to improve instruction and increase student achievement.
  • Assist in planning instructional budgets and professional learning plans.
  • Supervise the Remedial Education Program (REP), Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs, and other special programs.
  • Coordinate district-wide efforts to improve instructional program offerings.
  • Monitor the development, implementation, progress, and effectiveness of the school and district Comprehensive Improvement Plans (CIP).
  • Consult regularly with the superintendent to plan curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Develop a comprehensive professional learning program, interact cooperatively and promote working relationships among managerial, instructional, and non-instructional personnel.

Student Services

  • Provide administrative support and monitoring for counseling, nursing, and social worker programs.
  • Collect and compile monthly reports from counselors, nurses, and social workers.
  • Supervise and evaluate school social worker activities and referrals.
  • Coordinate with outside mental health providers to ensure fidelity
  • Organize and supervise system-wide student crisis intervention as needed.
  • Serve as Section 504 Coordinator, handling program compliance, progress monitoring, Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDR), and grievances.
  • Act as system-wide Hospital Homebound (HHB) Coordinator.
  • Coordinate the Home Study Program including monitoring Declarations of Intent and potential DFACs referrals.
  • Monitor student attendance, ensure effective implementation of attendance policies and protocols, and coordinate the Attendance Protocol Committee and Attendance Task Force with legal entities.
  • Serve as Grades 6-12 Multi-Tiered Student Support Team (MTSS) Coordinator.
  • Oversee district participation on the Family and Youth Counseling Agency (FYCA)/ Family Connections Collaborative Board.
  • Serve as the district representative on the District (3 or 4) Board of Health.
  • Maintain and revise the Student Support Services Manual annually.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and the community regarding services.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening student support services aligned with district goals.
  • Supervise the REACH program.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Consult regularly with the superintendent to plan and coordinate projects, assign priority, acquire products, and perform special tasks.
  • Compile reports, gather statistics, and develop other documentation as requested by the superintendent.
  • Assess, recommend, and provide training on specific data applications and programs the school district adopts.
  • Plan and initiate strategies for improving school effectiveness.
  • Provide consultant services and direct technical assistance efforts to enhance the competencies of all school-based and district personnel.
  • Provide leadership in identifying research and development priorities for the district.
  • Interact effectively with the general public, staff members, students, teachers, parents, and administrators, using tact and good judgment.
  • Participate successfully in the training programs to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with all sensitive material or information.
  • Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
  • Represent the school district on various committees and at community functions as the superintendent assigned.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a Master's Degree or higher with certification required by the Professional Standards Commission.
  • Minimum five years as an educator preferred.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and sound professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged standing, walking, and sitting periods.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication are essential to performing required tasks.
