Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Experience hiring, training, motivation, counseling and supervision of food service staff including cooks & dietary aids and servers
  • Experience with institutional cooking
  • Experience with long term care/ nursing home food service regulations
  • Experience with State of Georgia agencies that oversee & regulate food service operations.

.Requirements:

This is a highly responsible job providing oversight of all areas of food service to an elderly population in a controlled setting. Manager must be available for emergency situations that may encompass long, stressful hours. Primary, food service operations typically occur seven days a week from 6am-7pm.


  • Applicants will need 2 or more years of experience in the position of director of food and nutrition services and have completed a minimum course of study in food safety, by no later than October 1, 2023. Applicants must meet the State requirements for nursing home food services director.
  • This is a full-time position with availability on weekends
  • Hours include 80% administrative duties including but not limited to reports, ordering, compliance, training & oversight functions and 20% hands on food preparation, cooking and/or serving.

o Includes topics integral to managing dietary operations such as, but not limited to, foodborne illness, sanitation procedures, food purchasing/receiving, etc. (we note that this would essentially be the equivalent of a SERV Safe Food Manager certification); or

§ Be a certified dietary manager; or

§ o Be a certified food service manager; or

§ o Have similar national certification for food service management and safety from a national certifying body.

§ o Have an associate's or higher degree in food service management or in hospitality, if the course study includes food service or restaurant management, from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Experience with food budgets, cost control and inventory management including inventory turn
  • Physical Demands:

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, knee, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee will frequently push or pull food carts, handle tableware and utensils with speed and dexterity.

Safety and Job Hazards

  • Ensures work areas are safe
  • Procedures regarding cleaners or hazardous materials or objects are strictly adhered to
  • Equipment and supplies are properly stored
  • Ensure Universal Precautions procedures are followed
  • Ensure Infection control procedures are followed
  • Ensure Isolation procedures are followed
  • Ensure Fire, Safety & Sanitation procedures are followed
  • Promptly report any hazardous conditions and equipment to the supervisor
  • Report all accidents and incidents

Other Duties:

  • Coordinating dietary services with disciplinary team to provide person-centered care in a nursing facility environment.
  • Planning menus and menu cycles according to cultural and regional food preferences, and resident dietary guidelines.
  • Adjusting recipes to appropriate yield.
  • Supervising and educating dietary team members on food safety and sanitation, patient dietary restrictions, and food preparation.
  • Interacting and communicating with clients, understanding client health concerns and dietary requirements, and ensuring food preparation follows strict health guidelines
  • Analyzing the needs of every resident, client, student, or patient in the facility.
  • Establishing a budget and working within its confines.
  • Maintaining the inventory of kitchens.
  • Creating and managing the kitchen staff schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
