What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Inspector position at Thompson Engineering?
Thompson Engineering is looking for a Sr. Inspector in our Mobile, AL office. This is a skilled sub-professional engineering work in the field or office. Employees in this classification will act as the Assistant Project Manager and will be responsible for reviewing and directing the inspection duties of all project inspectors. The Senior Inspector shall be capable of surveying and drafting as they apply to documenting and inspection of a construction project. The Senior Inspector will report directly to the Project Manager
Essential Functions of the Position
- Responsible for the inspection activities/duties of the project inspection staff.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications for civil and vertical construction projects.
- Inspects workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards and applicable codes.
- Maintains required daily reports, photos, and logs of construction inspection activities.
- Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into master plans.
- Inspects and test materials incorporated into the project.
- Interprets specifications as related to materials and workmanship.
- Assumes limited responsibility of administering portions of contracts, which include preparing change orders and pay requests.
- Acts as a liaison between the client and the company.
- Ensures on time and regular attendance.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ten (10) years' experience in construction inspection, or a combination of experience and education in a related field of study.
- ACI Certification.
- Ability to be certified in Alabama for Concrete, Roadway Technician, Earthworks, QCI, and MUTCD.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Intermediate math and geometry skills in order to calculate areas, volume, etc.
- Computer skills that include Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in the outside elements of the field up to 100% of the time
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs
- Standing for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day
- Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites
