Summary:
This position is responsible for upholding all safety policies and work practices to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and for notifying operations management of violations of the policies and practices so management can enforce them.
Responsibilities:
- Trains and assists, as necessary, Plant Managers and HR in preparing the required incident notification, reporting and investigation reports to ensure that all appropriate documentation is completed in accordance with company-established incident reporting requirements.
- Assists with Root Cause Analysis and other on-site investigations of all injuries / incidents.
- Checks to ensuring plants have adequate safety equipment and necessary PPE. Monitor cost of PPE and identify reduction strategies.
- Conducts safety training meetings for the assigned Plant, enforcing and promoting safety regulations, policies and procedures, scheduling mandatory safety training for all personnel.
- Maintains the plant safety training matrix and creates reports to management to show completion rates and training needed.
- Provides guidance to management and employees on local, state and federal safety and environmental regulations, including maintaining required permits and communicating safety alerts.
- Conducts new hire safety orientation.
- Work with HR to coordinate and manage workers’ compensation claims and provide update to applicable parties on statuses.
- Work with supervisors to manage modified duty employees who are progressing to full duty.
- Performs monthly safety meetings with the management team.
- Develops Monthly safety topics for managers to share with employees.
- Creates lessons learned report to share plant EHS issues and resolutions with other plants.
- Performs monthly facility inspections.
- Performs Hazard Assessments on equipment and tasks.
- Coordinates performance of annual respirator fit testing.
- Updates EHS performance metrics and safety signs.
- Posts all plant areas with necessary EHS requirements.
- Ensures all wastes / hazardous wastes are properly segregated, stored and posted properly.
- Manages chemical authorization process for plant.
- Performs annual EHS audit of plant.
- Develops EHS procedures to support plant operations.
- Assists with other plants and sites as required.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- Five or more years of experience in a heavy industrial role
- Knowledge of various industry safety training (Lockout/Tagout, fall Protection, Confined Space, etc.).
- General knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations.
- Understands requirements with OSHA record keeping requirements and other regulatory and company requirements.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to make oral presentations on various safety related topics.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft® Office® software, especially Excel®, Word® and PowerPoint®.
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification as an OHST, CHST or CSHO.
Qualifications/Education Requirements:
- At least 2 to 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
Precast/pressure pipe manufacturing or similar.
- Knowledge of various industry safety training (Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, Confined Space, etc.).
- First Aid/CPR/AED certified. Certified as trainer preferred.
- General knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations.
- Understands requirements with OSHA record keeping requirements and other regulatory and company requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to make oral presentations on various safety related topics.
- Fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
- Good computer skills including Microsoft® Office® software, especially Excel®, Word® and PowerPoint®.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated, requiring limited supervision and have excellent organizational skills.
- Able to build and maintain both internal and external customer relations.
