Overview:
Are you working towards a degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Safety, Continuous Improvement or other manufacturing related field? As an Early Career Manufacturing Intern, you are responsible for completing required project assignments. You will gain a hands-on experience in Thompson Pipe Group’s manufacturing environments. Throughout your assignments, there will be a heavy emphasis placed on safety, teamwork, and process improvement. By the end of your assignment, our mission is to have positively impacted your curriculum and career goals in preparation for life after college. We will consider majors related to Industrial Mechanical Engineering, Safety, Continuous Improvement or similar. The internship will require at least 12 weeks with the option for additional internship work experience. Internships start dates are flexible and depend on the student’s academic calendar. The intern will be paid $20.00/hr.
Essential Functions:
- Standard Operating Procedure Development
- Technical Writing
- Evaluation of required PPE, supporting equipment and work process
- Cross referencing EHS Programs specific to procedure (overhead Crane, locomotive Crane, Forklift, etc…)
- Safety Programs Review and Standardization
- Programs are developed but needs reviewed and tailored to uniform templates
- Environmental Compliance Review for all locations (Federal and State specific requirements)
- Operation Permitting (Air)
- Water Permitting (Stormwater, Wastewater, etc…)
- HAZWASTE Generator
- Tank Compliance (UST’s, AST’s, compressed, pressure)
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a college/university
- Be a critical thinker with the ability to think and convey abstract ideas/concepts
- Display a desire to learn through intellectual curiosity

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Physical Demands
- Ability to travel throughout facility.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- While performing other duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 15 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 20-25 hours per week required.
Travel
- There may be interplant travel between the Grand Prairie and Alvarado Locations
