Job Summary:
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for financial and accounting processes and consistently preparing and delivering accurate and timely internal and external financial statements. This role will have responsibility for developing and maintaining internal controls and working with our external Auditors regarding the year-end audit. The role also participates in the forecasting and budgeting process, preparing management’s monthly reports, and analyzing financial data as necessary. The Controller will have strong leadership skills, while also having the ability to demonstrate humility, flexibility, and a positive attitude amidst ongoing change in a business that will continue to grow and evolve. The role requires a strong influencer who is collaborative and partners with the business’ operations leaders.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly manages a team of employees.
- Responsible for hiring, coaching, developing, and managing performance for direct reports.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage and direct the activities within corporate accounting (and shared services) while coordinating the monthly, quarterly, and annual Finance Close process to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Responsible for managing AP, Billing, Cash Application, Credit and Collections, Payroll, Expense management, Fixed assets and Inventory management and all other accounting related processes.
- Manage the treasury function including establishing cash reconciliation and forecasting procedures.
- Be responsible for the timely preparation of departmental reports, location and market profit/loss statements and the timely reporting of budget to actual results, including business insights for any deviations to plan.
- Provide management and shareholders with accurate and timely information necessary to make strategic, investment and operating decisions.
- Monitor the effectiveness of information management and internal control systems, while continually seeking to improve standards.
- Lead merger and acquisitions integration of Finance processes and systems in connection with the acquisition of businesses. Prepare purchase accounting memos and journal entries in accordance with ASC 805; facilitate valuation of acquired businesses as applicable with 3rd party valuation experts.
- Guide and provide mentorship to the accounting team, facilitating change management leadership and recommendations for implementing new processes and technology to support automation and continuous improvement.
- Maximize Finance’s efficiency through innovative process development; partnering with IT and system owners to set and execute the vision for financial systems tech stack.
- Develop, recruit, mentor and strengthen the Finance team.
- Assist in the development of KPIs (including shared services KPIs), reporting, and preparation of monthly forecasts and annual budget.
- Lead cross-functional projects consistent with overall Company goals and value creation plan. Enforce compliance with all Company policies as well as legal and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 10 yrs. as a Controller, with strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to research and interpret relevant guidance to facilitate decision making.
- Highly detailed oriented, driven, and self-motivated with ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Ability to synthesize business information and make judgements as to the appropriateness of financial and accounting decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for collaboration internally and externally.
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment, with a high sense of urgency.
- M&A leadership in consolidation and integration of acquired businesses required.
- Experience working in Private Equity
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, talking on the phone, attending virtual online meetings, and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Travel when needed.
