POSITION OVERVIEW

The EMS Educator assists the Education and Training Division with developing and coordinating training programs for TVEMS employees, partner agencies, and the public, coordinating and conducting community training. The major requirements of this position include; provision of quality EMS education to EMS students, TVEMS staff, partner agencies, TVHSD community and health care providers in the northern Colorado region in a professional, positive and cost-effective manner. The EMS Educator may function as a Paramedic in the clinical setting, and other rescue specialist, contingent upon appropriate qualifications, including fulfilling all clinical requirements of the Paramedic job description.

These job responsibilities should not be considered as the exclusive requirements of the position. The role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned to meet TVEMS needs.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Position Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a current, unrestricted Colorado driver’s license with a driving record that meets organizational requirements;
  • must possess and maintain unsanctioned Colorado State Paramedic certification or licensure,
  • Certified instructor in at least one standardized course related to prehospital care (BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS, etc.) required within one year of hire.
  • AHA ACLS and AHA BLS certifications
  • ICS 100, 200 and NIMS 700
Annual Pay Range:
$70,152- $98,700

Education/Experience:
  • A minimum of graduation from an accredited paramedic program with a valid State of Colorado Paramedic certification or licensure.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in EMS, biology, education, management, or closely related field is highly preferred. Any other combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance will be considered.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and;
  • 5 years current advanced life support (ALS) field experience to include any combination of active prehospital or EMS education experience and;
  • Colorado EMS Primary Instructor or equivalent training preferred and;
  • Experience in small group instruction, classroom organization, and online platform lecturing preferred and;
  • Experience in development of lesson plans preferred.

Knowledge:

Principles and practices including: personnel practices; methods of adult learning; methods and means of dealing with human behaviors in a variety of business circumstances required. This position must be able to supervise and evaluate the work of others while demonstrating considerable knowledge of basic and advanced prehospital emergency medical procedures, policies, equipment and protocols. Knowledge of didactic and practical methods of training and education.

Skills:

Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; strong organizational skills, time management, and maintenance of training records; negotiate conflicts and problems; assess and evaluate and program needs and data; analyze evidence-based guidelines, local practices, and government regulations; identify and resolve administrative problems; work irregular hours, maintain order in an environment of changing priorities; provide targeted feedback, constructive remediation, and use observational information to formulate development plans.

Technical Competencies:

Must possess knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; emergency prehospital care curriculums at all levels; state and national certification standards. Must maintain competence in the use of all TVEMS medical equipment and training aids. Ability to operate office equipment including but not limited to copier, calculator, computer, online learning programs and familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams programs.

Behavioral Competencies:

Must possess leadership skills to support TVEMS vision and mission. Ability to follow directions, deliver prebuilt lesson plans, and support the lesson objectives of the Education and Training Division. Ability to collaborate on the development of new programs and lesson plans. Humility to continue to learn, grow, and be open to instructional coaching, professional development, and when further clarification is needed beyond current understanding. Maintain confidentiality of all students and work-related information. Demonstrate an ability to function successfully in a team environment. Exhibit courteous, compassionate and respectful treatment of internal and external customers. Display a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations. Participate in identifying problems and solutions. Provide a supportive and ethical environment for the development of team members, students and subordinates.

Salary : $70,152 - $98,700
