Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Manager to oversee and enhance our quality assurance processes. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with industry standards, while fostering a culture of quality throughout the organization. This position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities and Authority

Management Representative

  • Serve as the Management Representative having responsibility and authority to:
  • Ensure that processes needed for the Quality Management System are established, implemented and maintained.
  • Report to top management on the performance of the Quality Management System and any need for improvement.
  • Ensure the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization.
  • Serve as liaison with external parties on matters relating to Quality Management System.
  • When Quality Systems Certification updates occur, send electronic copy to customers.

Quality

  • Manage all aspects of the Quality Department to include:
  • Ensure all product manufactured meets customer requirements (e.g. inspections at the First Article/Last Article, In-process, Dock, Receiving Inspection, etc. level are conducted to verify product meets customer specifications). If product does not meet customer specifications appropriate actions must be taken by the Quality Manager to prevent the potential opportunity of shipping nonconforming product. This requires the Quality Manager to ensure all customer requirements are known and understood by the quality department personnel.
  • Interface with customer contacts to resolve quality issues (this may include submitting product/data for deviation, inspection and review of rejected product, request correct revision of engineering drawings for product being manufactured, etc.).
  • Maintain key relationships with our customers by establishing scheduled visits to review issues/concerns with supplied product.
  • Complete a Benchmark Trip Report on each trip taken to the customer’s site and distribute to the Plant Manager and other members of management as appropriate to the items discussed.
  • Collect data and complete charts of Management Review data (quality objectives) monthly. Combine data from monthly charts for Management Review meeting (at a minimum conducted annually).
  • Serve as a member of the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) Team to ensure customer requirements and required processes are known and understood (with a cross-functional team) to prepare for the production of new or changed products.
  • Attend daily management meeting to report on internal and external product rejections and scrap percentages by part and shift.
  • Confirm that all First Article inspections, performed by the Quality Line Auditor, have properly been completed prior to the product going into production. Last Article inspections should be reviewed and approved in a timely manner.
  • Must ensure that all nonconforming/suspect products are contained in the NCM and/or Rework area. The NCM area must be maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Track trends and initiate internal corrective actions (ICAR) through the EnterpriseIQ database, as appropriate.
  • Notify the Plant Manager immediately of any customer complaints and product rejections both internal and external.
  • Distribute customer PPM reports weekly/monthly/quarterly (dependent upon customer) to the Plant Manager.
  • Disposition rejected material and product in a timely manner.
  • Represent the needs of the customer in internal functions addressing the Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
  • Ensure that root cause analysis is conducted and addresses Audit Corrective Action Requests (ACAR) as assigned and that they are closed out in a timely and effective manner.
  • o Stop production, if necessary, to correct quality problems.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping audits are completed and submitted as required when assigned to the quality department.
  • Order and stock necessary supplies needed in the Quality Department.
  • Maintain quality records to meet requirements of QMS.

Personnel

  • Communicate manpower and staffing needs to the Plant Manager by completing and submitting a Staffing Request form.
  • Complete employee evaluations on all subordinates in a timely manner as requested by the Plant Manager or the Human Resources Manager.
  • Delegate and follow-up on work assigned to subordinates.
  • Administer disciplinary actions in a fair and consistent manner per the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure that tasks are assigned daily and attendance is tracked and reported daily across all shifts.
  • Take appropriate actions in order to hold direct reports accountable for their job responsibilities.
  • Ensure the quality department personnel adheres to the Rest & Meal Periods as explained in the Employee Handbook, not exceeding two 10-minute breaks within an 8 hour work schedule.
  • Complete review of absenteeism, time issues, overtime, etc. of subordinates through payroll system.

Training

  • Develop procedures/work instructions that explain how to complete tasks within area of responsibility (e.g. dimensional and visual inspections, tests, rework, etc.).
  • Ensure all quality personnel are trained to perform their assigned job to include daily OJT and quality management system documentation.
  • All new released and revised quality procedures, work instructions, reference documents, forms, etc. shall be reviewed with quality personnel as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Records must be maintained of all training conducted shall be reflected on the training matrix.
  • Attend all required training as directed by the Plant Manager.

Management

  • Have flexibility in daily activities allowing changes in priorities as they occur and as directed by the Plant Manager.
  • Conduct a periodic meeting with subordinates to communicate job related information effectively. Provide minutes to the Plant Manager.
  • Manage personnel effectively to eliminate and/or reduce overtime to meet company goals.
  • Ensure effective communication is implemented and maintained throughout the Quality Department.
  • Attend shift meetings to ensure quality related information is communicated to the workforce.
  • Ensure subordinates within the quality department (to include yourself) are submitting nominees for Employee of the Month across all shifts.
  • Must maintain good communication and working relationships with all departments.
  • Submit two continuous improvement projects annually for the quality department.
  • Prepare and promptly attend all scheduled meetings as directed by the Plant Manager.

Safety

  • Ensure that containers within the quality department are labeled/stored per OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure that MSDSs are obtained and reviewed as appropriate for materials/products utilized within the Quality Department.
  • Ensure the quality department personnel work safely to prevent injuries. Record and report any injuries to the Human Resources Manager and the Safety Supervisor immediately.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skills combined with experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with the requirements of a Quality Management System.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of ISO/TS 16949 requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills, i.e. Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to manage, delegate, facilitate, and train others.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
