What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auxiliary Mechanical Technician position at THOR Solutions, LLC?
The candidate’s responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following actions:
- Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as Surge Support as tasked for the following Code 251 cognizant equipment.
- Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance on-site or via distance support as required, to include engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis and equipment repairs as tasked.
- Conduct Assessments, Inspections, and Grooms determining equipment condition and out of specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance, when possible; utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; evaluate findings and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
- Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in the operation, repair, and maintenance. The contractor shall perform/provide support during shipboard gas turbine systems tasking including TSRA, INSURV and Tech Assist events.
- Analyze and review inspection data to determine source of fault, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
- Report findings/discrepancies as required to the designated Team Leader and/or Branch Head of MARMC 251 via Material Assessment Form (MAF), Prisms/ETC Software, TAAS-Info, debrief and/or Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) within two working days of completion of task.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Must already possess an active or interim SECRET security clearance, and maintain it for the duration of employment.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.

At least ten (10) years of relevant experience within the last fifteen (15) years in the operation, repair, maintenance and assessment of U.S. Naval auxiliary equipment to include but not limited to:
- Fire Pumps, Fuel/Lube Oil Pumps and Purifiers, Distilling Plants, JP-5 Service/Transfer/Cargo/Stripping Pumps and Purifiers, Main and Auxiliary Condensers, Main Condensate Pumps, Main Seawater Circ Pumps, Potable Water Pumps and Systems, SSDG/SSGTG Pumps, and various types of pumps and piping associated with mentioned systems.
- Motor Operated Valves, Sea Valves, Remote Operating Gear, Pitswords, and various general valves associated with naval shipboard auxiliary equipment.
- Auxiliary Circ/Condensate/Sea Water Pumps, CHT/VCHT, Distilling Plants, Purifiers, Main and Auxiliary Condensers, Oily Water Separator Systems (OWS), Plastic Waste Processors (PWP) and various types of pumps and piping associated with mentioned systems.
- Demonstrated experience working in the official capacity of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the aforementioned systems/equipment/components for a US Navy Engineering Activity, US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or industrial/commercial equivalent is also required.
- Proficient using general and special purpose electronic test equipment to perform organizational level maintenance.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes and reporting methods for visits.
- Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
- Demonstrate ability for interpreting wiring diagrams and control schematics.
- Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Up to 10% travel anticipated.
- Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
