What are the responsibilities and job description for the QUALITY TECHNICIAN position at Thorlabs?
Purpose of the Position
The position is responsible for assuring conformance with monitoring and improving Thorlabs Quantum Electronics' quality systems and quality metrics. The location of the position is in Jessup, MD, and this is an onsite role.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to :
- Processing of RMAs, non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Monitor progress of NCR and CAR closure (both internal and external).
- Work with production, sales and purchasing on the implementation and tracking of planned deviations.
- Performing internal audits of business processes.
- Monitoring compliance with TQE's Quality Management System by tracking relevant metrics and investigating deviations from expectations.
- Investigation and correction of problems with documentation by working with engineering, production, and purchasing.
- Work with calibration team to ensure that any out of calibration equipment is quarantined and affected product is evaluated for suitability for production.
- Set up product for incoming inspection. Perform incoming inspection as needed.
- Process supplier quality audit documentation
- Support customer and ISO audits.
- Support quality-related training needs and delivering training. Update quality documentation as business processes evolve.
- Educating staff on quality methods and incorporating those methods into their daily responsibilities.

Physical Activities :
Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and / or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.
