What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Thornapple Kellogg Schools?
Position: Bus Driver
Monday - Friday
6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Student days only
Qualifications:
1. Must successfully complete, or have already completed, a Bus Driver Training Program including classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel instruction and the written and driving skills tests.
2. Must meet the Michigan School Bus Driver Certification requirements including the minimum hours of instruction and satisfactorily passing knowledge examination.
3. Must meet state requirements for appropriate licensing and state physical examination requirements.
4. Must meet local, county and state standards for driving skills test and local and state standards for driving record check.
5. Must pass drug and alcohol screenings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. High school diploma or an acceptable alternate-based high school equivalency.
2. Valid Michigandriver's license, or has completed the necessary bus driver's courses to secure a CDL A or B with a "P" and "S" endorsements and passed the required medical examination (DOT).
3. Must be a good communicator, both in verbal and written communication.
4. Must be able to open and close the entrance and emergency doors and perform repetitive motions in the course of driving a school bus.
5. Must be able to bend, support and physically carry a student/passenger/rider in and out of a school bus, especially in the case of an emergency.
6. Must be able to carry and lift into and from the school bus, assorted personal articles and adaptive equipment of various weights and sizes up to 40 pounds.
7. Must be able to bend, twist and stretch for the cleaning and securing of equipment in the interior of the school bus.
8. Must be able to bend, stretch, pull or drag all students/passengers/riders, equipment (i.e. car seats, wheelchairs, fire extinguisher) or other types of articles that would be of varying sizes and weight out of the emergency exits on demand.
