POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Product Development at Thorne Research will oversee the development of two-piece hardshell capsule formulations, ensuring premium product standards and alignment with company objectives. This role requires managing a team of scientists and technicians and collaborating with cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality dietary supplements. This position reports into the VP of Product Development.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Satisfactorily performing and/or achieving the following Responsibilities are essential duties of the job.
- Lead and coordinate the development of two-piece capsule formulations, driving projects from concept through commercialization while working across functional teams.
- Supervise and mentor a team of scientists and technicians, fostering collaboration and professional growth to achieve project success.
- Partner with procurement, external suppliers, and contract manufacturers to source materials, scale formulations, and ensure commercial production readiness.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges related to capsule formulation, manufacturing processes, and product performance to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, labeling, and quality standards, collaborating with QA/QC and Regulatory Affairs teams.
- Maintain accurate documentation of formulations, trials, and project activities, adhering to good laboratory practices and internal protocols.
- Stay informed on advancements in capsule formulation technologies and emerging industry trends to enhance product innovation and differentiation.
- Seek formal and informal performance assessments of self, including performance versus expectations and goals, behaviors, and leadership potential.
- Actively participates in required training and development programs and electives as suits one’s needs, and supports colleagues, trainers and management as appropriate with these efforts.

What You Need:
Experience and/or Education: • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field. • 7 years of experience in two-piece hardshell capsule formulation and process development. • Proven ability to manage projects and small teams in a product development setting. • Experience collaborating with suppliers and contract manufacturers on product scale-up and quality assurance. • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with attention to detail. • Experience in direct-to-consumer product development. • Experience with international product development, including regulatory or market-specific considerations.
Skills/Specialties: • Expertise in capsule formulation and manufacturing processes, including excipient selection and clean-label formulations. • Project management skills to oversee end-to-end product development. • Leadership and mentoring abilities to manage and grow a high-performing team. • Proficient in identifying and addressing technical challenges to ensure product quality and performance. • Effective communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and reporting to management. • Meticulous attention to documentation and adherence to good laboratory practices. • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
