Civil Construction Working Foreman / Skilled Operator

Thornton Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Foreman to lead and manage a crew of 4-5 workers on various civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in civil construction, with the ability to oversee project execution, operate heavy equipment, and ensure the successful completion of projects on time and within budget. Duties

• Crew Management:
• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of 4-5 crew members, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
• Provide on-site training, mentorship, and guidance to crew members.
• Ensure that all crew members adhere to safety protocols, project timelines, and quality standards.
• Heavy Equipment Operation:
• Operate a variety of heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and loaders, to assist in civil construction tasks.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Project Execution:
• Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure proper project execution.
• Oversee the layout, setup, and execution of construction tasks on-site.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve any issues that arise during the project.
• Site Layout and Planning:
• Conduct site surveys and manage layout tasks to ensure accuracy in construction.
• Utilize your expertise in civil construction to plan and execute project phases efficiently.
• Quality Control:
• Inspect completed work to ensure it meets design specifications, quality standards, and client expectations.
• Implement corrective actions when necessary to address deficiencies or improve quality.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Enforce compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Conduct safety meetings, ensure the use of appropriate protective gear, and promote a culture of safety on-site.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the heavy construction or civil construction industry.
• Proven experience managing a construction crew and overseeing project tasks.
• Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, and loaders.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction, site layout, and surveying.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and technical documents.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• OSHA certification or similar safety training is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working on roadwork, sewer, water, and storm drain projects.
• Operating Heavy Equipment 50k lbs with GPS Systems.
• OSHA certification or other relevant safety certifications.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
