What are the responsibilities and job description for the Measure Estimator position at Thornton Flooring?
The Measure Estimator is a field representative of Thornton Flooring and is responsible for surveying projects, measuring project dimensions, drawing the project into an iPad using estimating software. Communicates potential material and labor challenges, costs, quantities to sales team, customers and clients. Applies keen attention to detail and observation skills on-site at estimating flooring projects from a bird’s eye view in order to set our clients’ expectations accurately.
Responsibilities:
- Review daily tasks and projects as assigned by the Measure Schedule Coordinator.
- Fulfill client appointments in a timely manner.
- Assess projects by identifying project requirements, measuring room dimensions, existing conditions, detailing the scope of work including floor vents, transitions and recommended subfloor requirements.
- Verify customer name, address and phone number and scope of work.
- Maintain contact with customers in order to schedule, remind and follow-up on appointments.
- Add, cancel, or make changes to appointments in the organization’s schedule.
- Resolve appointment conflicts for staff, customers or clients.
- Read blueprints and analyze all other applicable documents to prepare estimates.
- Maintain thorough records of all project documentation including drawings, pictures and notes as well as overall accuracy of project dimensions.
- Assist sales team with final project preparation transactions.
Qualifications:
- Background in mathematics and flooring installation.
- Previous on the job training in floor covering industry.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Computer competency for emails, reports, drawing projects in iPad.
- Reading a tape measure and laser.
- Customer service skills, including displaying kindness and be open to providing scheduling accommodations to customers, clients or coworkers.
- Maintain the company’s standards and values when performing measuring tasks.
- Estimate projects with accuracy, speed, and efficiency via our estimating software.
- Critical thinking, analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform more than one task at a time and solve problems quickly.
- Clean driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Experience working as a company team player.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Work is performed both in an office and at job sites. Job site work requires driving to and from sites, sometimes in inclement weather. Job site work surfaces may be uneven or cluttered. Measuring includes periods of bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching in order to record relevant information into an iPad. Entry onto a job site may be muddy or icy and may require climbing a ladder or walking up a ramp. Office work requires long periods of sitting or standing at a desk and entering information into a variety of technology systems primarily by typing but also including other methods of input.
