Position Title: Church Custodian
Reports To: Trustees Chair for scope of work, Staff Parish Relations Chair for salary
Position Summary: The Church Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in the church building. This role includes regular cleaning of key areas, periodic deep cleaning of additional spaces, and ensuring the facility is well-maintained for worship services, meetings, community groups and events.

Responsibilities:
Weekly Cleaning Duties:
Bathrooms
- Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and countertops.
- Replenish soap, paper towels, and toilet paper,
- Sweep and mop floors.
Kitchen
- Clean countertops, sinks, and appliances.
- Sweep and mop floors.
- Empty trash and recycling bins.
Sanctuary
- Vacuum or sweep and mop floors.
- Dust pews, chairs, piano and other surfaces.
- Straighten hymnals and other items.
Entry and Hallways
- Vacuum or sweep and mop floors.
- Clean windows, doors, and other glass surfaces.
- Remove trash and ensure spaces are tidy and welcoming.
Monthly Cleaning Duties:
- Dust and vacuum or mop spaces such as the sacristy, Jesus Loves Me Room, the secretary’s and pastor’s offices, stairs, AV area and storage areas.
- Address any additional cleaning needs as requested.
General Duties:
- Monitor cleaning supplies and notify the Trustees when restocking is needed.
- Report maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Monitor church calendar for special events that may require additional cleaning.
- Dispose of trash in the dumpster.
Qualifications:
- Experience in custodial or cleaning services preferred.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Physical ability to lift and move objects (up to 25 lbs.) and perform manual labor.
- Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy.
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment in alignment with the church’s mission.
- Employment contingent upon successful background check.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- Hours: 8-10 hours weekly to ensure cleaning of primary areas in addition to monthly tasks. Scheduling can be flexible but should not interfere with groups meeting at the facility. At least one work period must be Friday or Saturday to ensure a clean space for Sunday morning worship. Extra hours may occasionally be requested from the Trustees.
- Compensation: $15/hour paid biweekly Annual performance review and initial 90 day probationary period.
- Tools and Supplies: The church provides all tools and cleaning supplies. Custodian communicates with Trustees to maintain adequate supplies.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.75 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 10 per week
