Our Forensic practice investigates problems in the built environment and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.
The Role
We are looking for a Structural Project Engineer with interests in demolition, engineered deconstruction, structural forensic investigation, structural repair, and retrofit design. This individual will have a strong field presence, aiding contractors in the development of deconstruction plans and working to safely demolish heavy infrastructure. Additionally, they will execute structural investigations of existing buildings and design remedial repairs for deficient conditions. You will be able to provide direction to, and review the work product of, junior-level staff, coordinate with other project managers on interdisciplinary efforts, support marketing efforts, and develop and maintain client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys of existing infrastructure, documenting conditions of gravity and lateral systems.
- Prepare and present demolition drawings to contractors and crew.
- Develop crane and rigging plans for the removal of structural components.
- Perform engineering calculations for the safe felling (collapse) of structures.
- Work on site with the contractor to assess changing field conditions and its impact on demolition plans.
- Assist with damage assessment and cause and origin investigations.
- Prepare field notes, feasibility studies, cost analyses, and specifications.
- Complete technical and investigative reports to support forensic findings and prepare materials related to presentations.
- Perform the required mechanical calculations, designs, and equipment selections for a broad range of project types.
- Perform peer reviews and condition assessments, including order of magnitude cost estimating.
Requirements
Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $90,000-$110,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful California applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in California or perform the position from California. Similar positions located outside of California will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by California Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
