Thorntown Veterinary Clinic is a fast-paced, 4 DVM practice that is looking for an experienced veterinary assistant, but are willing to train the right candidate! Candidate must be friendly, outgoing, and people oriented. Must be a self-motivated, team player who is attentive to detail, effective at oral and written communication, and demonstrates strong technical skills. Computer and telephone skills are a must. In this position you will be supporting our team by maintaining a positive, low stress atmosphere while administering best medicine for our patients and clients. Responsibilities and Duties
The duties of a Veterinary Assistant include:
- Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable
- Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing care
- Performing cursory exams and educating clients on all aspects of pet health
- Maintaining complete and accurate medical records by obtaining relevant information and history from clients
- Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and explaining prescription directions and potential side effects to clients
- Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and providing telephone support
- Preparing various laboratory tests
- Suggesting dietary products and other services to clients
- Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained
- Using safe restraining techniques and following standard protocols
