What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Designer position at Thoroughbred Architects & Engineers?
Design and draft structural illustrations, schemes, and structural components under the direction of a licensed Professional Structural Engineer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create sketches and models of proposed designs, including computer models for visualization proposes.
- Review building plans and coordinate architectural, mechanical, etc. with structural drawings.
- Prepare preliminary structural drawings for design.
- Contact different disciplines for coordination and preparation of structural drawings.
- Create drawings that show how each element of a structure will be constructed and how it will be assembled with other elements.
- Identify possible design flaws in structures and recommend improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Design.
- Proficient with computer design software, AutoCAD
- Ability to read and translate blueprints and technical drawings.
- Ability to work as part of a team and individually on projects.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Exceptional computer skills to work with multiple types of design software
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to work closely with engineers, government officials, and other staff members
- Excellent time management skills to work within tight time frames and strict deadlines
- Critical thinking skills to troubleshoot potential problems with plans, designs, and sketches
- Strong multi-tasking abilities to juggle many different tasks and work on several design projects at once while maintaining focus
