What are the responsibilities and job description for the Primary Counselor position at Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery?
Thoroughbred Wellness and Recovery is dedicated to providing high-quality substance use treatment. Our facility offers detox and residential services, ensuring a structured and therapeutic environment for client recovery.
As a Primary Counselor, you will play a key role in providing therapeutic support to clients, helping them navigate their recovery journey. This position involves conducting individual and group therapy sessions, developing treatment plans, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive Assessments: Conduct initial and ongoing evaluations to determine clients' mental health and substance use treatment needs.
- Individual Therapy: Provide evidence-based therapy, including CBT, DBT, and other relevant modalities.
- Group Therapy: Lead therapy sessions focused on substance use recovery, mental health management, relapse prevention, and other key topics.
- Treatment Planning: Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans that align with clients' recovery goals.
- Case Management: Coordinate care with healthcare providers, social services, and support networks to ensure comprehensive treatment.
- Crisis Intervention: Assess risk, create safety plans, and connect clients with emergency services when necessary.
- Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant records per state regulations and company policies.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, and other therapists to deliver integrated care.
- Education & Support: Educate clients and families on substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and healthy coping strategies.
- Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in mental health and substance use treatment through training and continued education.
Qualifications:
- Education: Preferred Bachelors degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
- Certifications: Certification in substance use disorder treatment (e.g., CADC, CAC) is required. CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention (CPI or equivalent) certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in substance use disorder treatment and/or mental health counseling.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong clinical assessment skills.
- Experience using evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
- Full-time, on-site position
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends as needed
