What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bricklayer position at Thorpe?
Bricklayer Responsibilities:
- Skilled bricklaying work to create and maintain structures, walls, chimneys, and foundations using various types of blocks, tiles, boards, and stone.
- Perform various tasks including pointing, internal block work, and working with lime mortar.
- Lay Flemish bond as required.
- Check and assess work when directed to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards.
- Identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repairs.
- Carry out planned tasks in accordance with contract requirements and within agreed time limits.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation associated with work.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in bricklaying and masonry work.
- Knowledge of various types of blocks, tiles, boards, and stone.
- Ability to work with lime mortar and perform pointing tasks.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Physical Requirements:
- Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments.
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment.
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Climbing ladders and working from heights as necessary.
- The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
