Primary Responsibilities:
- Retrieves, compiles, processes, maintains paper and electronic health records of hospital(s) and clinic(s) patients in a manner consistent with administrative, ethical, legal and regulatory requirements. Monitors incoming documents daily and provides timely handling according to policy. Maintains strictest confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Process and answer routine requests for information from the PHI of a patient according to Three Crosses Regional Hospital policy, local, state and federal regulations
- Validates and ensures that HIPPA and PHI forms are current, accurate and completed.
- Analyzes inpatient, day surgery, observation, and outpatient records for deficiencies in documentation. Performs both concurrent and retrospective analysis of patient records to in an effort to assist physicians with completion of records prior to the records reaching delinquent status.
- In this capacity, the employee organizes and maintains a system of health files and logs concerning patient diagnosis, treatment, admissions, discharges and daily patient census changes in EMR.
Requirements:
- HS Diploma/GED
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- At least 1 year of HIM/healthcare experience required.
