Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician, assists the pharmacist(s) in storing, preparing, dispensing, reconciling, and charging of all medications to the nursing units and treatment areas serviced by the pharmacy. To assist the pharmacist(s) in maintaining an adequate drug inventory and quality control procedures. Pharmacy Technician shall work under the direct supervision of a licensed registered pharmacist and will only perform activities that are in compliance with the State Board of Pharmacy Practices.
The incumbent will carry-out duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and fully supports the mission, vision, and values of Three Crosses Regional Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Accurately fills unit-dose medication orders and delivers medications to nursing units in a timely manner after pharmacist has checked them.
- Makes timely rounds to each nursing unit as directed by the pharmacist to deliver medications, IV, Auto Stop Repots, MARs, etc. and to pick up orders and credits.
- Completes all credits returned to pharmacy timely and accurately; accurately and appropriately returns medication to stock before leaving their shift.
- Complies with policies and procedures when using and charging requisitioned drugs to other hospital departments and clinics; maintains appropriate records of invoices as designated in pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Accurately completes monthly unit inspections on a timely basis.
- Assists pharmacist in cart fill, by generating necessary reports, and accurately filling, exchanging, and billing; appropriately documents and files cart fill report.
- Maintains floor stock systems within the hospital and clinics by accurately reconciling, restocking and charging for medications.
- Accurately completes daily billing procedures as assigned.
- Complies with Rules and Regulations of the State Board of Pharmacy in accurately preparing IV’s as assigned, utilizing aseptic technique, under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Maintains competency required for current Job Description and Demonstrates knowledge in all areas identified in the Competencies. A copy of this completed/graded competencies will accompany the Evaluation.
- Accurately performs assigned duties/projects as specified by the Director or Staff Pharmacist in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate management.
- Attend staff meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Required: High school diploma or GED
- Preferred –1 year of experience as Pharmacy Technician in health care environment.
- Required: Certified Pharmacy Tech (CPhT) or must complete within 1 year of licensure
- Required: Active New Mexico Board of Pharmacy Technician license.
- Preferred: Current BLS from AHA
