Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and MLT’s, the Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant is responsible for efficiently and accurately performing blood draws and transfusion on blood donors and patients. Performs specimen collection for all age groups. The phlebotomist/lab assistant will perform duties in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner according to established hospital and department policies and procedures. The incumbent will carry-out duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and fully supports the mission, vision, and values of Three Crosses Regional Hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen collection procedures in a prompt, accurate and safe manner on all age groups.
- Be able to answer questions from clinical staff as to how to collect and store specimens.
- Answer phone in courteous and professional manner.
- Prepare specimens to be sent to reference labs.
- Assist co-workers in the lab with functions, waived testing, etc. within scope of the phlebotomist.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Attend staff meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Required: Graduate of a phlebotomy program or 2 years equivalent experience
- Preferred: Certification as Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), Phlebotomy Technician, PBT (ASCP)
- Required: BLS certification from AHA
- Required: 1-2 years of experience working in a high-volume laboratory in the role of a phlebotomist.
- Preferred: Hospital setting experience preferred.
