The Radiology Assistant provides continuous support for patient flow through the radiology department. The Radiology Assistant is responsible for escorting or transporting patients within the hospital in an expeditious manner. The radiology assistant may also assist Imaging Technologist with imaging procedures. The radiology assistant will also assist with lifting, and positioning patients, transporting patients using a wheelchair and/or stretcher/bed. The radiology assistant consults with patient's Nurse or other appropriate personnel to obtain information about patient's status and information about patient destination.
The Radiology Assistant will help maximize departmental throughput by prioritizing tasks, assisting with clerical duties, including Order Entry, data processing, report retrieval, intradepartmental communication and logistics and ensuring the department operates smoothly. This includes providing support across all modalities within the Radiology Department during times of high patient volume or low staffing, performing tasks within their scope and role.
The incumbent will carry out her/his duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and fully supports the mission, vision, and values of Three Crosses Regional Hospital. The incumbent will have knowledge of health care systems, and have demonstrated ability to interact, relate to, work with, and support the activities of a diverse workforce.
Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrates customer service excellence by anticipating and responding to the needs of patients, providers, employees, and other customers.

- Properly identifies patients with two patient identifiers (Name & DOB). Maintains HIPPA compliance.
- Exhibiting a high degree of tact, courtesy, and poise, explains procedures to patients, reducing anxieties and obtaining patient cooperation, while using AIDET.
- Understanding of the concepts of universal precautions, HIPAA and OSHA.
- Possess and demonstrates adequate knowledge to provide radiological services with techniques appropriate to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. In compliance with all radiation safety policies and procedures to minimize radiation to patients and staff (ALARA).
- Maintains imaging equipment, procedure rooms stocked and clean ready for use.
- Notifies proper personnel of any deficiencies in hospital equipment.
- Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed.
- Reports "near misses" and inputs errors promptly into RL Solutions (Incident & Feedback Reporting System) to improve processes and identify trends. Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvement activities and contributes to meeting departmental and hospital targets for quality and safety.
- Performs routine duties in an independent manner and knows when to refer problems to Lead or Director.
- Performs other related duties as necessary.
- Handling incoming phone calls from patients, healthcare professionals and other departments, promptly addressing inquiries, providing information, and routing calls to the appropriate individuals.
- Scanning orders into PACS: Utilize the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to electronically scan and attach radiology orders, making them easily accessible to the imaging team for efficient workflow and retrieval.
- Assist with the import and export of CDs containing medical images, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and transfer protocols are followed to maintain data integrity and patient confidentiality.
- Attend staff meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Required: 6-12 months of experience in clinical/hospital setting
- Required: BLS from AHA
