Description:
The mission of the Construction Observer II is to ensure the quality of a constructed project. In this role a Construction Observer II will assist the Construction Project Manager on projects of moderate size and complexity under limited supervision by monitoring contractor progress and performing certain quality control and contract administration functions.
The essential functions of the Construction Observer II:
1. Able to read and interpret plans and have a good understanding of project specifications.
2. Able to interpret “level” measurements and have an understanding of cut and fills and elevations for grades.
3. Able to perform field measurements as directed using a wheel and tape measure for the purposes of keeping quantities.
4. Show job responsibility for project specific quality system tasks.
5. Perform Construction materials testing in accordance with project specifications and technical standards.
6. Monitor contractor progress and conformance to plans and specifications on projects.
7. Assist with documentation of construction projects and inspecting job activities to verify they are in compliance with project plans and specifications.
8. Performs various contract administration functions as directed by the Construction Project Manager.
9. Assist with coordination of required project acceptance testing.
10. Assist with materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation.
11. Identify potential problems to the CEI Project Manager and Contractor and keep project engineer and supervisor informed of progress on project.
12. Assist with specific installation tasks, field measurements and other assigned duties.
13. Attend various meetings as needed related to assigned construction projects.
14. Represent the company in a professional manner and present a positive image when working with clients, contractors and the public.
15. Maintain a professional, conservative, and non-distracting appearance at all times.
16. Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with clients, agencies, etc.
17. Assist with completion of daily report documenting labor and equipment used by contractor to include a description of work performed and any pertinent conversations with contractor.
18. Assist with office work such as computing earthwork quantities.
19. Assist with extensive written reports and documentation. Construction reports and logs are written and filed daily.
20. Able to follow company mandated safety policies.
21. Follow policies and procedures set forth in the CDG Employee Handbook.
22. Update your talent profile and resume on a periodic basis as determined by the Corporate Marketing Department to include new skills and experience developed.
23. Utilize VISION to complete timesheets, expense reports, and other job specific tasks according to the schedule established by the Corporate Accounting Department.
24. Participate with the Corporate Marketing department in the development of “project write-ups” by offering details regarding your role in the project.
25. Notify Business Development Coordinator of any changes that need to be made to the Client Record to keep client, contact, and vendor information current in VISION.
26.The Client Record includes information such as Contact profiles, Address, organizational function, and other relevant information.
27. Adhere to Information security and other IT policies.
28. Utilize communication platforms including but not limited to Outlook, Skype/Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and phone system.
Requirements:
• High School Diploma/GED
• 1-5 years’ experience in construction inspection, surveying or highway materials testing and inspection is preferred
• Asphalt Technician level I – Field Tester Certification preferred
• Concrete Technician (ACI and NCDOT Certification)
• Asphalt Roadway Technician Certification
• Work Zone Safety Radiological Safety Course Certification
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
