Job Description
SUMMARY
Performs assigned tasks of direct and indirect care in the ambulatory setting to meet the care needs of patients under the direct supervision of a physician (medical acts) or assigned supervisor. The medical assistant participates as a member of the health care team and accepts appropriate delegation from the RN or physician in meeting the needs of the patient / family. The medical assistant performs assigned tasks in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The medical assistant carries out designated activities that are within those functions limited by law to unlicensed health care personnel.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets, screens, schedules, and directs patients to exam rooms.
- Performs clerical duties related to clinical services including medical transcription, composition, and dictation in a medical group.
- Prepares and processes correspondence. Answers routine medical administrative inquiries and drafts letters for physicians and other clinical staff.
- Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and provides support services to patients and medical staff. Arranging hospital admissions and laboratory services.
- Preparing and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections-including vaccinations / immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant).
- Triaging patient phone calls.
- Requests, locates, sends, and receives patient medical records.
- Assisting physicians during exams and minor procedures.
- Performing basic lab tests and EKGs.
- Preparing and administering medications and immunizations.
- Maintaining stocks of medicines and medical supplies.
- Completing physician orders and facilitating specialists' care.
- Arranges meetings for clinical staff.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures.
- Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
- Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
- Strong critical thinking skills

- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism during stressful times.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors of Three Rivers Health Center.
- Maintain a good attendance record.
- Other duties as directed by management.
