What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach/Character Development Program position at Three Rivers College?
Full-time position with Three Rivers College, an NJCAA Division I institution in Region XVI. This position will assist the head coach to direct a competitive program in accordance with the College and NJCAA rules and procedures. The assistant coach will also assist with all aspects of the women’s basketball program to include but not limited to:
- Provide instruction to athletes regarding physical health and safety.
- In collaboration with the Head Coach, design the student workouts and training sessions to meet specific team needs as well as the needs of individual athletes.
- Coach team members individually and in groups; and demonstrate game techniques. Manage designated skill development opportunities for positions played.
- Serve to develop and promote player development through learning opportunities in daily practice, identify strengths and deficiencies and design instructional opportunities to improve technical and strategic execution.
- Develop and recommend game strategy in conjunction with the Head Coach.
- Counsel student-athletes in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters. Implement action plans through appropriate staff when needed. Refer student-athletes in matters of physical, addictive, or mental health issues to appropriate resources through college protocol.
- Assist with the marketing and promotion of the Three Rivers College Athletics Programs by representing the college and athletic programs at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events and facilitate growth of support.
- Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NJCAA and Region regulations.
- Maintain player eligibility records and team statistics.
- Work with student services to complete attendance and grade checks. Supervise the study hall for the Women’s Basketball Program.
- Successfully research, scout, evaluate, and contact prospective student-athletes. Participate in the recruitment process of athletes. Oversee the negotiation of scholarship offers to prospective student-athletes, ensuring that any commitments fit within the total number of available/funded scholarships.
- Maintain recruitment related correspondence, telephone calls, academic evaluations, athletic evaluations, off-campus contacts, home visits and database maintenance as required.
- Maintain the Letters of Intent system through NJCAA.
- Commitment to follow all established policies and guidelines for Three Rivers College, Missouri Community College Athletic Conference, Region XVI and NJCAA.
- Establish and develop relationships with appropriate high schools and coaches to position Three Rivers College to be highly competitive.
- Assist with managing travel arrangements for the team.
- Knowledge and commitment to academic and athletic excellence, cultural diversity, retention, and gender equity in athletics.
- Display loyal, honest, responsible, ethical, and professional behavior at all times.
- Cooperate with all coaches and administrative staff within the athletic program to enhance overall departmental operations.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required. Minimum of two years of coaching experience required. College coaching and/or playing experience preferred. Evenings, weekends, and travel (local, region, and national) required.
Salary range is $40,000. Excellent fringe benefit package including, but not limited to health, dental, vision, and life insurance; vacation and sick leave; and the Missouri Public School & Education Employee Retirement System.
