Transit Bus Driver (Hourly)
Transit Buses are 12 to 14 passenger small buses and do not require a CDL to operate.
Primary Responsibility:
Responsible for operating buses in a safe and efficient manner. Transport people by bus throughout Meriwether County. Responsible for the safety and well-being of themselves, their passengers, and other drivers and pedestrians on the road.
Summary of Duties:
· Follow a planned manifest, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers
· Responsible for collecting fares from passengers during stops
· Assist passengers on and off the bus when help is needed
· Communicate with the call center to provide updates, report emergencies, traffic patterns, or accidents/incidents
· Visually inspect the bus before beginning the day’s assigned route
· Report any mechanical issues with the bus, such as brakes, steering, or other issues
· Prepare an observational report when the shift is finished
· Deliver fares to a designated supervisor, and perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:
§ Ability to operate a transit bus safely, regardless of weather conditions (CDL is not required)
§ General knowledge of motor vehicle laws
§ Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
§ General knowledge of vehicle maintenance
§ Ability to recognize mechanical problems and take appropriate action
§ Excellent time management skills
§ Above average oral and written communication
§ Must not be easily distracted or become easily frustrated with mechanical issues, passenger behaviors, traffic, or dispatch requests resulting in delays and scheduling changes
Qualifications and Requirements:
§ Must be 21 years of age
§ Must have a valid driver's license with few if any points
§ Ability to pass a Background Check
§ Ability to pass a DOT physical
Physical Requirements:
§ Must pass a drug and alcohol screening
§ Prolonged periods of operating the bus
§ Must be able to assist passengers when needed
Preferred Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Previous driving experience is encouraged, but not required to be considered for employment. Advanced training, licenses (CDL licenses), and certifications are preferred, but not required.
