Job Summary
A dedicated teacher is sought to plan and provide learning experiences for students in a variety of educational settings at our Private Residential School. The ideal candidate will establish clear objectives, develop effective communication plans, and supervise paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction using evidenced-based teaching practices for students with disabilities.
- Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment, employing special education strategies and techniques to improve sensory and cognitive skills.
- Confer with professionals to help develop IEPs and IIPs designed to promote students' educational, physical, social, and emotional development.
- Maintain accurate student records, prepare reports, and assist in data collection for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 months teaching experience in a behavioral healthcare or special education setting.
- 2 years of teaching experience in the subject area preferred.
- Knowledge of special education laws, policies, and practices.
- Proficient with Windows, Outlook, internet, and MS Office.
- Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in an appropriate discipline.
Education and Licenses
- Bachelors Degree in an approved program for Teaching/Special Education.
- Masters Degree in an approved program for education (preferred).
- Collegiate Professional License from the State of Virginia in an appropriate discipline.
- Postgraduate Professional License from the State of Virginia in an appropriate discipline (preferred).
Other Requirements
- CPR, First Aid, Behavioral Management Program certifications.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder training within 60 calendar days of hire.
