Type: Contractor Position (part-time, evening hours)
Contract Rate: Commensurate with experience and amount of agreed upon time providing dance instructions and routines for students
Preferred Schedule: After school 3 X per week beginning after 4pm (potential of M-TH evening)
Responsibilities
- Provides after school dance instruction and routines to students in grades 8-12
- Plans and conducts dance activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and student engagement
- Manages student engagement and behavior during the periods of instruction
- Instructs and monitors students in dance techniques to prevent injury
- Provides constructive feedback to help students improve their technique and performance
- Communicates with residential leadership and mentors on the whereabouts of students and student behavior during dance programming
- Completes administrative responsibilities required by State of Louisiana/Thrive Academy for service contracts
- Creates 1-2 student routines each semester to showcase during larger campus events (e.g. Campus Block Party, Homecoming, etc.)
- Maintains a safe and clean studio space, ensuring all equipment is properly stored and cared for
Qualifications
- Prior experience with professional dance and/or on a competitive or collegiate dance squad
- Prior experience with dance instruction for teens is preferred
- Knowledge of more than one dance style (e.g. Ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, modern, etc.)
- Ability to put together/choreograph routines
- Strong passion for educating young dancers and fostering their growth in the art of dance
