Now Hiring: Burn Unit ICU RN – Handle the Heat in Bakersfield, CA!
Position: Burn Unit ICU Registered Nurse
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Pay: $36/hr
Shift: Nights (6p–6a)
Are you a seasoned ICU RN who thrives under pressure, can handle the heat (literally), and isn’t afraid of a little fire? Well, we’ve got just the job for you!
The Need-to-Know
Unit: Burn Unit – where we turn up the heat and cool it down all at once.
Beds: 7 (but our average daily census is 4 – not too crowded, we promise!)
Certs: BLS, ACLS, PALS – bonus points if you’ve got Advanced Burn Life Support.
Ratios: 1:2 (because burns demand the best care).
EMR: Cerner – if you know, you know.
Charge Nurse: Yes, we’ve got backup!
Support Staff: No Nurse Aides, but we do have an elusive Burn Tech (not on every shift). They’re basically superheroes when it comes to hydrotherapy and dressing changes.
The Logistics
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend – we share the love.
Holidays: 2 out of 3 – because burns don’t take holidays, unfortunately.
Scrub Color: Navy blue – stylish and professional.
Tele: Phillips in the Burn Unit – must be able to read your own (no cheating!).
Vents: Yes, you’ll be handling them.
Docs in the House: Hospitalists and intensivists consult, but the burn surgeons run the show.
IV Team: Nope – it’s all you.
RT 24/7: Yes! You’re never alone in the fight for airway supremacy.
Pharmacy 24/7: Meds when you need them.
On-Call: Only if census drops – we like to keep it interesting.
The Fun Stuff
Floating: Yes, sometimes you’ll spread your wings to PICU, Peds, or Adult ICU.
Orientation: 2 shifts in the Burn Unit, 1 in PICU/ICU, 1 in Peds – we’ll ease you in. Patients: Burn victims (ICU level to med-surg), adults & kids – bring your A-game.
Qualifications:**
Experience: At least 6 months–1 year in a Burn ICU (2 years preferred).
Cerner EMR: You gotta know your way around it.
