Thrive Tutoring, Raleigh is hiring part-time reading tutors to work with struggling readers in grades K-5 across the greater Raleigh area. The goal of tutoring is to support student growth in reading and writing through effective literacy intervention.
We prefer to hire a team member with a background in reading instruction and intervention. Orton-Gillingham or Wilson training is highly desired!
Duties:
- Assess student present levels of performance and monitor their growth over time
- Prepare high-impact lessons in advance of each tutoring session
- Lead engaging, one-on-one tutoring sessions that are tailored to the needs and goals of each student
- Travel to the home of the student to conduct tutoring sessions--travel required across the Raleigh area in the after-school and evening hours
- Communicate promptly and professionally with Thrive team, students, and families
- Work with Thrive team and families to schedule tutoring sessions
- Establish an open line of communication with student’s teacher(s) in order to gain insight into the student’s needs, learn about the teacher’s lesson plans and class objectives, and provide the teacher with updates on progress during tutoring sessions
- Review and analyze various assessment results (if needed)
- Collaborate with team on a detailed learning plan that is tailored to student needs and academic goals
- Provide parents with feedback after each session
- Provide student with post-session checklist of action items/reminders
- Follow through on all action items and commitments
Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience facilitating reading intervention in a 1:1 setting
- Highly dependable and responsible
- Strong follow through, organization, and grit
- Self-starter, resourceful, and eager to work in a start-up environment
- Track record of leading students to results
- Exceptional academic background
- Able to demonstrate subject-area expertise
- Strong understanding of the science of reading and experience determining, developing, and delivering academic interventions
- Passion for and experience in working with students, particularly students with learning differences
- Experience developing impactful lesson plans aligned to student needs and learning goals
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Natural ability to build rapport and develop relationships
- Empathetic and in tune with the needs of others
