The lending compliance officer for Thrivent Bank will support the interpretation and guidance of lending regulated regulations including RESPA, TILA, SCRA, MLA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, UDAP/UDAAP, and others. This position will also lead the execution of the fair and responsible banking responsibilities including the review of marketing and advertising materials, escalated customer complaints, fair lending risk assessments, HMDA filings, and small business analysis in compliance with 1071. This position will report to the Chief Compliance & CRA officer and also support the execution of the Banks CRA strategic Plan.

- This is a hybrid position that resides in Salt Lake City Utah.
- Provide solution-oriented compliance support to assist the lending teams in reaching their goals, while meeting compliance requirements
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance on lending compliance related state and federal consumer banking laws and regulations to strengthen processes, procedures, and controls for the lines of business/risk owners.
- Collaborate with Bank senior management and business lines to identify deposit compliance risks and develop metrics and thresholds including key risk indicators, key performance indicators and early warning indicators.
- Partner and consult with risk owners to fulfill compliance risk assessments.
- Provide advice and oversight throughout audits and exams, including compliance assurance testing.
- Support new initiatives through the New Initiative Request and Risk Request process, with a strong analytical focus on compliance controls, testing, and ongoing monitoring to implement effective processes.
- Review proposed marketing campaign materials and strategies, to effectively mitigate compliance risks.
- Assess servicing and regulatory-driven customer communications and disclosures to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws.
- Participate in, credibly challenge, and oversee various stages of issues (vetting, severity, resolution plans, etc.) and escalate when needed.
- Participate and support business process management processes, including criticality assessments when necessary, ensuring that applicable deposit regulatory risks are identified and remediated.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and internal stakeholders (e.g., Risk and Compliance colleagues, Legal, Operational Risk owners, and Internal Audit Group.
- Review and assess changes in laws and regulations for applicability and impacts to the Bank, partnering when applicable with risk owners to align with regulatory changes ensuring adequate controls and risk mitigation are in place.
- Consult and facilitate, when necessary, on third-party risk assessments and tasks.
- Develop and produce management reporting for all governing bodies; regulators, committees, management, and risk owners, as needed.
- Participate in the customer complaint process, partnering with stakeholders to provide timely responses, remediation, or escalating when necessary, including escalation to other compliance SMEs for remediation direction.
- Support the Chief Compliance & CRA officer with CRA specific responsibilities include monitoring of progress against the Bank’s stated goals.
- Maintain strong relationships with regulators, always demonstrating a culture of compliance, transparency, and building credibility through the proactive management of regulatory relationships.
- Maintain awareness of supervisory enforcement actions, legislative updates, new/amended regulatory requirements, industry trend and banking operations.
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skill, with a proactive approach to identify and mitigating potential compliance risks with the 1st line of defense.
- Miscellaneous strategic initiative and project management support.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business management, or related field. Advanced degree desirable.
- 7-10 years of professional experience in compliance, internal audit, or related field with experience in risk assessment, and risk mitigation.
- Advanced understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
- Extensive knowledge of lending compliance regulations and industry standards, such as the Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Community Reinvestment Act, and others.
- Excellent leadership and negotiation skills, capable of navigation through a complex and matrixed environment.
- Experience with regulatory affairs, regulatory relations, or regulatory examination management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and inquiries with strict deadlines.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills; delivers high quality written messages; capable of conveying risk concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and communicate observations to senior executives.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong ethical values and a commitment to promoting a culture of risk awareness and accountability.
- Experience with compliance management software and tools.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or equivalent certification such as Certified Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE).
