What are the responsibilities and job description for the Market Director position at Thrivent?
You're someone who’s ready to lead with purpose—someone who knows how to build strong advisor teams, grow a local presence, and guide others toward meaningful success.
As a Market Director, you’ll be a key leader in your region. You’ll help shape the future of our business by recruiting top talent, mentoring new advisors, and bringing together people, tools, and ideas that make a lasting impact. If you’re energized by developing others, building relationships, and making things happen at a local level, this might be your next big move.
What You’ll Own
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll lead growth—not just support it—by bringing structure and energy to your market. The role blends recruiting, coaching, and business development into work that matters.
- Build a strong local advisor team by finding and hiring people aligned with our purpose
- Help new advisors get off to a strong start—with guidance, encouragement, and a plan
- Support individual advisors and teams as they build practices rooted in trust and community
- Foster a culture that values performance, collaboration, and growth
- Partner with internal teams to make sure your market has the right tools and support in place
What You Bring
You’re a people leader with a background in financial services—and a track record of helping others grow. You know how to spot talent, build trust, and coach people toward success.
We’re looking for someone with the following qualifications:
- 5 years in financial services, ideally focused on hiring and developing advisor talent
- Experience recruiting and supporting advisors—especially within team structures
- Confidence in leading group discussions and breaking down complex topics
- A history of strong results in sales across life, health, annuity, and investment products
- A four-year college degree (preferred)
- Willingness to work alongside advisors in the field as they develop their skills
Licensing & Requirements
- FINRA Series 7, 63/65 or 66 (required or obtained within 90 days)
- Insurance licenses in life, health, and variable lines (or obtained within 90 days)
- Registration in all states aligned to your advisor group
- A clean compliance record and satisfactory background check
- Flexibility to travel locally—up to 50% of the time—and attend occasional evening events
- A reliable vehicle for business travel
