What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist position at Through the Looking Glass?
Position Summary:
Through the Looking Glass is seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist and will seriously consider a new graduate if he or she has a strong interest and dedication to not only working with children with disabilities but parents with disabilities as well. The OT would be mentored closely by current TLG OTs in serving both populations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide developmental consultation to staff at Oakland Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
- Provide home-based and center-based assessment and early intervention for children under the age of five years.
- Support quality interaction and relationships between infants or children and parents
- Coordinate intervention during teamwork with other TLG and community providers.
- Complete necessary record-keeping and reports
- Respect cultural and disability differences in a diverse community
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Language Skills: Bilingual, bi-literate preferred, English/Spanish or ASL, and other language ability based on program needs. Ability to write reports, assessments, and progress notes; effectively communicate with other staff and workers in the community.
- Computer Skills: Ability to use computers for completing assessments, writing reports, and progress notes.
Education and Experience Requirements: Master’s degree in occupational therapy, with a California OT License. Experience or internship with children with disabilities is a must.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registration Requirements:
Possession of a California Occupational Therapy license, a valid California driver's license; and current personal vehicle insurance. It requires the use of personal vehicles to successfully complete job duties and responsibilities. State regulations require a physical examination, immunizations, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal record check before hiring.
Training Opportunities:
The Occupational Therapist will receive individual weekly supervision and mentoring by TLG’s OT staff, who have unique, nationally recognized expertise working with parents with disabilities. The OT will also participate in weekly TLG multi-disciplinary staff meetings, which include case presentations and training.
