Job Summary
A CNC Lathe Operator sets up and operates numerically controlled machines to perform operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts such as dies, housings, backers, press tooling and other applicable products. Inspect machines, assemble and/or disassemble liners and containers to meet blueprint specifications.
Essential Job Functions
- Receives incoming print and does jobs in order based upon delivery dates, rush priority, or at leader’s or supervisor’s request.
- Selects steel of adequate size and checks all measurements to see that steel will conform to prints specs.
- Inspects standard set up of machine to see that it is adequate to run part. Makes necessary changes regarding setup.
- Loads steel into machine and tightens into jaws.
- Depending on the type of steel to be turned, program is either brought up from memory, transferred from the office, or entered in according to book located at the lathe.
- Dry runs program and checks that all appropriate dimensions will be met when turning is completed.
- Program is run and job is turned. When finished, job dimensions are checked against print requirements. (Various amounts of stock are left on, depending upon tool.)
- The job is stamped with company name and number, TTE number, and shipping date. Job is then moved to the next station in work process.
- Inspects all container / liners that enter work area.
- Lifts work piece manually and/or with hoist, positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, centers, or fixture.
- Sets up and operates container / liner furnace to job specifications.
- Sets up and operates container / liner upender to job specifications.
- Sets up and operates hone machine to job specifications.
- Sets up and operates large manual lathe to job specifications.
- Reads blueprint or job order for specifications, tooling instructions and set up instructions.
- Records starting values and end values of work piece on inspection reports according to blueprint specifications.
- Documents the time spent (scans time) for each order on a daily time ticket for tracking and cost analysis.
- Other duties include housekeeping to insure a safe and productive working atmosphere and others specified by supervision
