What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Thumbprint?
About Us
Thumbprint isn’t your traditional promotional products company—we’re a tech-forward, brand-obsessed, culture-driven team with a vision to revolutionize the way people interact with branded merchandise. We build systems, experiences, and tools that help the world’s most recognized brands connect with people in meaningful, measurable ways. With fast growth, major clients, and ambitious goals, we’re scaling quickly—and we need smart, passionate people to build it with us.
Position Summary
We’re looking for a sharp, strategic, hands-on Controller to lead our financial operations with precision, speed, and integrity. This isn’t a “keep-the-books” type of role—it’s a high-impact leadership position where you’ll be responsible for driving financial performance, building scalable processes, mentoring a team, and acting as a trusted advisor to our executive leadership. With the support of our CFO, you’ll own everything from budgeting and forecasting to compliance, cash flow management, and internal controls, all while helping a fast-growing company navigate complexity with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership: Direct all accounting operations, including AP, AR, general ledger, financial reporting, payroll, and month-end close.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial coordinators and specialists; set clear goals, drive accountability, and build a culture of performance.
- Strategic Planning: Partner with leadership to create and execute financial strategies that support our growth goals, operational efficiency, and long-term vision
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Own the planning process—establish budgets, build forecasting models, and deliver real-time insights to help the business move fast and smart.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and audit requirements; prepare accurate financial statements and reporting packages.
- Process Optimization: Design and refine internal controls, financial policies, reporting systems, and financial procedures that improve accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in accounting/finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or controller-level role. Experience in the manufacturing, distribution, or promotional product sectors is a big plus.
- Tech Skills: Experience with modern accounting software is a must; Zoho Books familiarity is ideal. Excel wizardry and comfort with integrations, APIs, and financial dashboards are highly valued.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and build high-performing teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and drive results without micro-managing.
- Detail Obsessed: Highly organized, analytical, and focused on precision without getting lost in the weeds.
- Communication: Clear, concise communicator who can translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-financial teams.
Preferred Attributes
- Industry familiarity with branded merchandise, print, or light manufacturing
- Skilled at scaling finance functions in high-growth environments
- Experience with cash flow forecasting, inventory accounting, and profitability analysis
- Not afraid to challenge the status quo and propose better, smarter systems
