Thunder Bay Sanctuary Tours, operating within the waters of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, is seeking outgoing individuals to be deckhands to close out the 2024 season. If you are looking for an exciting summer opportunity to contribute to the preservation of shipwrecks and provide unforgettable experiences for our guests, then this is the perfect position for you.
This is a seasonal position running from April to October.
Pay: $15-$20 per hour plus tips dependent upon experience
Responsibilities:
- Conduct boat tours on the Lady Michigan, a unique glass bottom boat, providing captivating views of shipwrecks.
- Welcome and assist guests in a professional and courteous manner.
- Provide information and answer questions about the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, exhibits, programs, and services offered.
- Safely load and unload passengers.
- Participate in safety training and adhere to safety protocols. - Scan and collect tickets from boarding customers.
- Ensure passenger safety and compliance with regulations during vessel operations.
- Assist the Captain with navigation, record keeping, and maintaining communication systems.
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance standards of the vessel and facilities.
- Provide interpretive narration, highlighting the unique features and history of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
- Assist visitors with accessibility needs and ensure a positive visitor experience.
- Perform retail sales and handle cash transactions for merchandise and tickets.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Physically capable of tasks such as bending, lifting up to 65 pounds, swimming and maintaining balance on a boat.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledgeable about the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, exhibits, programs, and services offered.
- Pass background check and pre-employment drug testing and random thru season. ***medical marijuana card does not qualify***
- First Aid CPR Certification
- Must be available during peak tourist times, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have a team-oriented and positive attitude.
