A physical therapist (PT) is a licensed health care professional who
helps patients improve their mobility and reduce pain
- They work with patients who have injuries, disabilities, or other health conditions that limit their ability to move or function. PTs use a variety of techniques to help patients, including :
- Evaluation : Review patient medical history and referrals, and observe patients' movements and concerns
- Treatment planning : Create individualized plans that outline goals and expected outcomes
- Treatment : Use exercises, stretching, hands-on therapy, and equipment to help patients
- Progress evaluation : Evaluate and record patient progress, and modify the treatment plan as needed
- Education : Educate patients and their families about the recovery process
- Training : Train patients in the use of assistive devices and perform activities of daily living programs
- Documentation : Maintain patient records and charts
