Thurston County is seeking highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Information Technology Consultant II (ITC II) within the Information Technology (IT) Department. The IT Department provides a wide range of professional internal services to over 1000 employees in County offices and departments in various locations throughout the County.
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Administer line of business infrastructure: Administer the server, network and active directory systems.
- Maintain servers/network equipment to ensure appropriate patching levels and maximum uptime.
- Manage, coordinate, implement technology infrastructure projects.
- Provide timely response to user requests for assistance.
- Demonstrate customer focus and partnership in projects and work order assignments.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work Environment – Primarily an office environment sitting at a desk. Occasional work in server rooms and network closets installing equipment, usually less than 30 pounds.
- Schedule - Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. During emergencies or special projects, this position may be required to be called in or work an irregular schedule and cause a temporary change in normal work hours. This includes working on non-business or extended hours on weekends and holidays to check/troubleshoot network or system outages, attend early morning or evening meetings, and/or be available by phone to answer questions.
- Travel Requirements – Regular local travel to satellite offices and County locations for troubleshooting and user support. Infrequent travel may be required to attend meetings or training. Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, email, chat, in-person, and video with Thurston County staff. Potential for interaction with partner organizations and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree in computer science, management information, business administration, or related field and three years of progressive responsibility. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Additional experience, which demonstrates progressive increasing responsibilities, may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
- Depending upon area of assignment, experience must include a demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position:
- Thorough knowledge of hardware including personal computers, network servers, communication devices, printers, plotters, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of software including network and desktop operating systems, office automation, programming languages, database products.
- Thorough knowledge of system and network security.
- Thorough knowledge of PBX telecommunication systems.
- Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation. Employment is contingent upon passing a security background investigation.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Strong technical skills, knowledge and experience in most of the following:
- Enterprise level infrastructure
- Network management, Server hosting and administration
- Domain management, and Identity and Access Management
- Software patching, and cybersecurity remediation actions
- Proven ability to partner and collaborate with customers on projects and work requests; help identify business requirements, document business processes, and recommend solutions.
- Forward thinker who can enable new ideas or improved methods for system efficiencies and work solutions.
- Self-starter who can lead or participate as a member of a self-directed work team and utilize the resources of other team members. Ability to communicate (oral and written) clearly and effectively with all levels within the organization.
