Job Title: Manager of Government Affairs

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
SUMMARY: The Manager of Government Affairs is responsible for collaborating with Congress, federal agencies, the Administration, and TIA membership to develop policy recommendations and advance organizational priorities. In partnership with the Vice President of Government Affairs and the Director of Government Affairs, this role oversees the implementation of government affairs initiatives and policy positions adopted by the TIA Board. Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in government relations, policy development, or a related field.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the Vice President and Director of Government Affairs to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for TIA's policy and advocacy efforts, aligning with the needs of the 3PL industry and the objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.
- Increase the political effectiveness of TIA.
- Develop and oversee TIA's external relationships with members, associates, other associations, Members of Congress and their staff, and Administrative Agencies.
- Explore and evaluate new technologies, techniques, approaches, or philosophies for importation into advocacy.
- Organize and host an annual Fly-In of TIA members.
- Execute and manage the Government Affairs and PAC portions of the Strategic Plan.
2. Manage TIA's Policy-related Conferences and Committees:
- Manage TIA committees as assigned.
- Increase member involvement through conference and committee engagement.
3. Manage TIA's Political Action Committee, TIAPAC, through advocacy, management and compliance.
4. Manage member questions, special projects, reports, guidelines, model contracts, etc.
5. Participate in industry events representing TIA.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Government Affairs.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:
- Organized self-starter capable of making independent decisions affecting the development and implementation of all aspects of TIA.
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting assigned deadlines.
- Excellent telephone and in-person customer service skills.
- Proven experience in working on Capitol Hill or with Administrative Agencies.
- Proven written communication ability.
- Language Ability: Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical documents, and governmental regulations. Skilled in drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals with attention to detail. Proficient in proofreading and editing reports, journals, and procedural documentation to ensure accuracy and clarity. Effective communicator, capable of delivering presentations and responding to inquiries from managers, members, and the general public.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Proven ability to analyze diverse perspectives and synthesize them into clear, actionable objectives.
- Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Excel, read financial reports, utilize the iMIS database, and use government affairs software.
- Certificates and Licenses: None needed.
- Work Environment: General office conditions. Hybrid work environment requiring at least three days in the office each week. Days and times are determined in consultation with the VP, Government Affairs and consistent with TIA policy.
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- Travel: This role may require occasional travel, including weekend commitments, to successfully fulfill job responsibilities.
