Safety Specialist Position Summary:
The Safety Specialist will focus on improving safety by using his/her experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong safety culture. Evaluates workplace compliance with regards to local, state, and federal regulations. Functions as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company safety standards and programs. Helps Leadership and Safety Team members to perform jobsite auditing and conduct incident investigations.

Safety Specialist

Safety Specialist Job Responsibilities:
- Provides technical support to plant personnel regarding MIOSHA regulations
- Designs, develops, and administers policies and procedures to ensure regulatory standards compliance.
- Reviews/prepares all applicable regulatory reports and maintains supporting documentation
- Assist with Industrial Hygiene Monitoring Program for plant along with annual audiograms.
- Participates in the development of and conducts in-house Safety audits.
- Keeps current on regulatory issues
- Maintain facility safety files and records
- Develop programs to improve plant safety performance to meet plant goals
- Assist with new employee safety training and existing employee refresher training
- Provide safety support for all shifts
- Actively participate in Safety Teams
- Assist in the development, coordination, and maintenance of emergency preparedness plans
- Able to teach others to assess risk, identify hazards, and implement appropriate controls.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence others that do not report to you.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.
- Recommend corrective actions, as needed.
- Assist in completing safety risk assessments.
- Assist with the preparation, maintenance and posting of EHS statistics
- Performs hazard assessments which may include hazard identification, ergonomic evaluations, and recommending countermeasures to management that will reduce/eliminate hazards.
- Ensure that the EHS Manager is aware of the status of all safety related programs and performs other duties as needed.
- Collaborate and cross-train with the Environmental Specialist to enhance team expertise and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or equivalent experience desired.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar certification preferred.
- Knowledge in advanced manufacturing technology (Robotics) safety is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of and experience working with MIOSHA / OSHA regulations.
- Experience in performing ergonomic assessments desirable.
- Must be comfortable working in a team setting.
- Positive attitude, self-driven, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing goals.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills; able to work flexible hours occasionally.
