3D Animation
Job Title: 2D & Stop Motion or 3D Animation Counselor
Reports To: Program Director of Multimedia
2D & Stop Motion Animation Counselors are responsible for teaching the fundamentals of animation in digital and/or stop motion formats. 3D Animation Counselors are responsible for teaching fundamentals of animation and use of 3D software through Blender. They are responsible for guiding campers through the Animation process, including animating, lighting, and rendering. They help campers develop technical and creative skills while fostering curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in a fun and supportive environment.
1. Supervision and Camper Engagement
- Supervise and mentor a small group of campers, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Apply youth development principles to build relationships, encourage creativity, and promote teamwork.
- Ensure campers are actively engaged, supported, and appropriately challenged in their projects.
2. Program Implementation
- Teach 3D Animation concepts and skills using Blender. For 2D, teach fundamental animation techniques including frame-by-frame animation, motion graphics, and stop motion
- Provide instruction in animation software such as Adobe Animate, Dragonframe, Blender, or similar
- Guide campers in designing and developing their own projects, ensuring they understand software and animation principles.
- Adapt instruction to different experience levels, providing individualized support as needed.
- Upload and organize campers’ final projects so they can take home their work at the end of each session.
3. Health & Safety
- Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers and staff during all activities.
- Ensure campers receive proper hydration, warm-ups, and cooldowns before and after activities.
- Ensure campers adhere to health and safety guidelines.
- Be alert to campers’ health needs, including first aid and injury prevention, and communicate any concerns to the appropriate staff.
4. Role Modeling & Camp Culture
- Set a positive example by demonstrating enthusiasm, patience, and creativity.
- Engage in camp traditions, including theme days, games, and all-camp activities.
- Promote an inclusive environment where all campers feel encouraged and supported.
5. Communication & Administration
- Maintain clear communication with the Program Director of Multimedia and fellow staff about camper progress and curriculum needs.
- Complete session-specific Camper Highlights, summarizing each camper’s achievements and experiences.
- Provide and receive feedback to enhance the Animation program and overall camp experience.
Other Job Duties:
- Assist with camper transitions, arrival, and departure.
- Participate in all-camp activities and contribute to a fun and engaging camp atmosphere.
- Support campers in both their technical and social development throughout the camp day.
Qualifications:
- Experience with 3D animation and Blender or similar programs
- Ability to interact positively with children and adolescents, demonstrating patience, enthusiasm, and adaptability.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must obtain necessary background checks and fingerprinting prior to working with children.
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain before the start of camp.
Physical Aspects of the Job:
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to observe camper behavior and respond appropriately to ensure a safe and engaging environment.
- Visual and auditory ability to recognize and address camper needs.
Training & Schedule:
Staff Orientation: (Required for all staff; some exceptions may be made for school obligations) The week of June 10 (Exact dates TBD)
Camp Dates: June 16 - August 8
General Information:
- Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM (Full-time, short-term position)
- Commitment: Acceptance of a TIC contract is a primary commitment for the term of the contract; other jobs or internships that interfere with the schedule are not permitted.
- Housing: TIC is a day camp with no residential facilities; out-of-town staff must arrange their own housing.
