Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

1. The Rod Room Attendant shall be designated by the Project Quality Manager (or designee) and be
properly trained to this document and PKS-PRO-WELD-4.05 Filler Metal Procedure (or Project Specific Filler Metal Procedure)

2. A Warehouse Issue Ticket shall be filled out to request the transfer of filler metals from the warehouse to the rod room. The Warehouse Issue Ticket shall be accompanied by a completed copy of the Weld Filler Metal Control Sheet for the Filler Metal being transferred.

3. The Rod Room Attendant shall verify the accuracy and completeness of all receiving documents for the Filler Metal being transferred. They shall inspect the Filler Metal containers for damage that may have occurred during transfer to the Rod Room and ensure that all markings are complete and accurate prior to acceptance and storage of the Filler Metal in the Rod Room.

4. Only Authorized Personnel shall be allowed in the Rod Room

5. Only Filler Metals listed on the specific WPS to be used will be issued to the Welders

6. The Rod Room Attendant shall maintain a daily record of the storage temperature of the filler metal in each storage oven. The Rod Room Attendant shall verify that electrode storage oven temperature is maintained at the proper temperature and recorded on the log at the beginning of their shift and before issuing materials through the shift. Temperatures may be taken using either built in or portable thermometers or laser temperature guns.

7. Each Filler Metal issuance from the Rod Room to the Welders shall be performed using a Field Requisition for Welding Materials (Rod Slip) filled out and signed by the Foreman or electronically submitted.

8. The Rod Slip shall indicate the Welders name, ID, WPS, Filler Metal Classification, quantity, and what the welder will be working on. The Rod Room Attendant shall check to ensure that the welder is qualified to use the requested filler metal.

9. Filler metal requiring humidity / temperature controls shall be issued ONLY in portable rod caddies assigned to each welder. Each welder shall maintain his/her own rod caddy and shall not provide and Filler Metal to another person.

10. The Rod Room Attendant shall maintain the Welding Material Issue Log with date, Welders’ ID, quantity, classification, size, time, and lot/heat number

11. The Rod Room Attendant shall inspect all returned Filler Metals and log the quantity, classification, and time returned. Returned Filler Metals shall be maintained in the portable rod caddies, returned to storage ovens, or destroyed.

12. In the event that the Rod Room loses electrical power (regardless of duration) the Rod Room Attendant is responsible that the steps defined in PKS-PRO-WELD-4.05 Filler Metal Procedure (or Project Specific Filler Metal Procedure) are followed.

13. PKS-PRO-WELD-4.05 Filler Metal Procedure (or Project Specific Filler Metal Procedure) shall be reviewed and referred to as needed whenever questions arise about Filler Metal Control.

14. In addition to Rod Room Attendant functions, there will be admin and support duties established upon arrival to site.

Qualifications

  • Must possess working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools and layout tools safe and efficiently.

Requirements

  • The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site,
so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
  • Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor
weather conditions
  • Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
  • May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access
required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and
maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
  • Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
  • May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across
construction/industrial site
  • Must have required tools
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
  • Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, fit for duty medical and background
check
