What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Estimator and Construction Manager position at Tick Tock Energy?
The Electrical Estimator & Construction Manager is responsible for supporting cost estimating and construction of our solar PV projects in the commercial, farm and residential markets. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about electrical equipment, commercial and residential building electrical systems, electric design and construction.
The position is fast paced and requires ability to pivot from the early conceptual phase of a project (pre-construction) through completion of final construction. The job involves field inspections, surveys, construction management, and in-office work preparing electrical cost estimates.
The position requires underlying experience as an electrician and proficiency working safely around electrical gear, have ability to electrical testing meters, climb a ladder, work on roofs and work with our customers at the farm, residential, and commercial facilities.
The work includes performing site surveys, evaluating field electrical conditions, develop electrical scope of work, collaborate with in-house engineering and electrical subcontractors, and prep electrical cost estimates. During construction phase, manage a portion of solar projects during construction. Overall, the position will split between electrical cost estimating and construction management. With company growth the position has two potential career paths with greater focus on cost estimating or construction management.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
1.Work closely with our solar solution development and sales team to complete electrical cost estimates for our solar projects.
2.Perform site surveys and evaluate electrical equipment and electrical building infrastructure.
3.Visit customer sites, inspect electrical panels, switchgear, utility equipment, and identify electrical interconnection options for our solar equipment.
4.Be proficient at photographing and written documentation of existing building, electrical and project site conditions. Be meticulous about detail and well organized.
5.In the office, compile notes and prepare electrical estimates, coordinate with engineering to prepare pre-designs, formulate electrical scope of work, identify major electrical equipment required, and finish estimates of labor and materials costs.
6.Work with Microsoft Excel and other solar software and cost estimating software tools. Be proficient in typing and computer skills.
7. After project award, assist with the field construction of our solar projects with particular emphasis on supporting the electrical aspects of our projects.
8. Assist our service department with troubleshooting and technical issues related to operations and maintenance of solar systems.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED:
1. At least 7 years of electrical field experience as an electrician and ideally experience that has included work in an office environment supporting estimating or construction management.
2. Detailed knowledge of electrical switchgear, panel boards, and applications involving 208, 240, and 480V electricity in a wide variety of buildings.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to be a team player who appreciates a unique, entrepreneurial, and collaborative environment.
5. Accurate calculation skills, proficient with math and numbers, and ability to use spreadsheet programs.
6. Ability to read and understand blueprints, project specifications, and drawings.
7. Ability to handle a demanding workload and multiple job estimates simultaneously.
8. Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
9. Passion for the solar industry and seeking challenge and career growth.
10. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and documents.
IDEAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
- Journeyman wireman graduated from the NECA IBEW apprenticeship program or Master Electrician with at least 5 years of hands-on field installations followed by experience in project management and/or estimating preferred.
- Electrical construction expertise required and strong familiarity with commercial building, farm and residential electrical systems and wiring.
- Experience with solar PV design and construction preferred. Or ability to quickly learn and obtain proficiency in 6 months.
- College-level experience and completion of Associates or bachelor’s degree helpful.
- Experience with AutoCAD, solar modeling tools such as Aurora or Helioscope, and/or other electrical cost estimating programs a plus. Or high aptitude to learn software quickly.
- NABCEP certified, or ability to obtain certification is preferred.
TRAVEL: Based out of Tick Tock Energy’s home office in Effingham, IL, this position requires occasional travel within 150 miles of Effingham, IL and further as necessary.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
