Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This part-time, temporary position will provide administrative support to TCC’s Summer Camps for 2025. The Summer Camps are held for youth in Grades 3-12 in order to give them an opportunity to discover and explore a variety of career options. Camps will be held in the Weeks of June 16th through August 18th. The position will work at the College’s Center for Workforce Solutions in Suffolk, beginning June 2nd through August 29th, for 13 weeks averaging 18 hours per week. Work days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week, with flexible scheduling as needed.
Functional Responsibilities:
The Summer Camp Administrative Assistant is responsible for accessing all official camp forms, maintaining rosters, and attendance sheets. This position will draft letters, enter financial data, manage scholarship programs, answer and direct phone call traffic, and provide general office support. This position frequently communicates with college staff, parents and instructors using both oral and written communication to provide quality customer service.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Demonstrated computer skills in basic Microsoft programs, particularly Excel
- Ability to organize and work with details and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, in conjunction with superior customer service.
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, to achieve team goals.
- Ability to follow directions
- Previous experience working in an education or customer service environment
