Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position will assist in providing administrative support in all aspects of the operation of the Business Office, including customer service, collection of revenue, and information verification.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Assists students and the general public by answering inquiries related to the fiscal policies and the operation of the business office.
- Enters all forms of payments in the PeopleSoft/SIS system.
- Verifies Third party tuition payment authorizations.
- Counts all monies and balance register at the end of each shift.
- Receipts payments of Financial Aid students, Student Clubs, Dean’s Loan and Third party payments that were billed through Accounts Receivable Office.
- Places and removes service indicators on student accounts in Psoft/SIS system.
- Processes Storm Card transactions.
- Processes financial aid authorizations (HRT, Meal Plans, Child Care, etc.)
- Distributes HRT passes and posts information in CBord.
- Verifies documents in Image Now.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Experience in bookkeeping
- Ability to review and interpret contracts
- Ability to use computers and various computer software.
- Knowledge of state regulations for revenue collection of state and local funds.
- Experience in cashiering functions including handling large sums of money.
- Skills in office procedures as well as oral and written communication.
- Ability to handle a variety of diverse duties.
- Ability to organize work and make independent decisions within college guidelines.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve as needed.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with office staff, students, faculty, and general public.
- Experience in business, industry, retail sales, or banking.
