Job Description


Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The purpose of this position is to strengthen relationships with small, medium, and large companies, industry associations, and local workforce development boards through targeted marketing and outreach efforts that aid workforce development program growth in the Advanced Manufacturing sector.
The Employer Engagement Specialist will help 1) institutionalize and standardize processes for developing and maintaining industry relationships and partnerships 2) create and improve a database of employer partnerships including points of contact 3) develop common resources and guidance to clarify processes and procedures that guide the building and maintaining of industry relationships for workforce training and academic programs 4) expand TCC’s capacity for developing real-world skills through on-the -job training 5) convene advanced manufacturing industry partners to build and expand apprenticeships, internships, and work-based learning opportunities 6) assist with creating and implementing Registered Apprenticeship programs, 7) plan and coordinate seminars for faculty and industry professional development.
The Employer Engagement Specialist will create Special Arrangement Contracts or other agreements for partnerships and collaborations that result in the development of new paid internships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning opportunities. The Employer Engagement Specialist will develop marketing materials in collaboration with Visual Communications, Faculty, Deans, and Program Coordinators as well as develop outreach and engagement events specifically geared toward apprenticeships at TCC. The Employer Engagement Specialist will attend job fairs and other related events representing TCC. The Employer Engagement Specialist will assist with researching and implementing the Business and Industry Leadership Team (BILT) model or similar model to strengthen industry commitment and engagement with Advisory Committees to increase TCC’s understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the workforce and alignment with business and industry partnership strategies.
The position responsibilities will require some travel around the Hampton Roads Region to engage with K-12 schools, employer partners, and outreach events.
This is a restricted grant-funded position.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
1. Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of PC-based software including advanced features of word processing, presentation, spread sheet, database, and communication packages.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
3. Ability to present and express ideas and information clearly, concisely, and professionally in a manner appropriate to the audience, whether oral or written.
4. Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, anticipate, and meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities.
