Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The Center for Military and Veterans Education’s (CMVE) Business Processing Office (BPO), located at the Virginia Beach campus, will support the CMVE/Veterans Affairs Offices by providing accurate and timely processing of enrollment certifications.
Functional Responsibilities:
Review incoming ECR forms for certification in accordance with the Department of Veterans Affairs and State Approving Agency.
Process enrollment certifications using Enrollment Manager software accurately (error rate of 3% or less) and efficiently with a steadily increasing completion rate.
Maintain records of enrollment certifications via ImageNow/Perceptive content.
Send email communications to students for classes that cannot be certified for benefits, explaining why and the next steps the student needs to take for classes to be certified.
Monitor and respond to students through several global email accounts daily.
Review certifications done by CMVE staff for quality and completeness.
Assist with processing drops and withdrawals, graduations, suspensions, last date of attendance and all other mandated reporting requirements.
Knowledge of the pre-requisites necessary for classes and programs of study.
Knowledge of placement tests and developmental courses.
Run queries and utilize information within the Student Information System (SIS).
Extensive knowledge needed of the Federal and State education benefits available, and the policies and procedures associated with each one.
Review all processes related to certifications for continuous improvement.
All other duties as assigned.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Become a School Certifying Official by completing the initial online training provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Complete all subsequent yearly professional development requirements as mandated by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Ability to work accurately with details, construct records, make data entries, track curriculum and safeguard records for each student.
Ability to read, interpret and implement Virginia Community College System and Tidewater Community College’s policies and procedures.
