What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Utility Pipelayer position at Tidewater Development Services Corporation (TDSC)?
SUMMARY:
The Civil Utility Pipelayer position will be responsible for assisting all aspects of utility (water, sewage, and drainage systems) installation and maintenance projects. The role involves ensuring all pipes are accurately installed to the plans and specifications for each project. Valid driver’s license and decent driving record. OSHA 30 and CPR-First Aid Certifications all preferred, but willing to train.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF CIVIL UTILITY PIPELAYER:
- In coordination with the Supervisor, ensure proper inventory is on site prior to installation.
- Install water, sewer and storm utility pipes per city, state, and federal utility specifications specific to each project. To include all appurtenances (valves, checks, gaskets, etc.)
- Excavate using mechanical heavy equipment as well as shovels when necessary.
- Utilize cutting, tamping, and other mechanical tools required for utility installation.
- Ensure all safety regulations are followed
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in construction is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of verifiable utility construction industry experience.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of construction means and methods and a thorough understanding of the utility industry trades, installation, maintenance, and practices – specifically underground utilities such as water, sewage, and drainage systems.
- Experienced in and capable of operating heavy equipment associated with the construction/excavation industry.
- Knowledge of positioning, joining, and aligning lines at proper depths, angles, and grades.
- Ability to use transit lasers, pipe lasers, hand tools, and read grade stakes, and place offsets if need be.
- Knowledge of Construction Safety Regulations and Best Practices.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as construction specifications, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

SALARY:
- Negotiable – depending on experience.
- Paid Weekly on Fridays (Mon thru Sun Work Week) w/ paystubs emailed.
